ARGH 2002 Preliminary Power Ratings

The following are the preliminary pre-season ARGH power ratings for the 117 Division 1-A teams for 2002. These ratings are calculated as of information and estimates available March 19, 2001, and are not final. The final pre-season ratings will be released in July.

These power ratings are computed using the following factors: Previous year's power rating; second previous year's power rating; number of returning starters (estimated); previous year's strength of schedule; whether the coach is returning; and whether the starting quarterback is returning. The strength of each factor varies each year based on what has happened in the three previous years. These preliminary pre-season power ratings also include a factor for recruiting, based on rankings found on CBS Sportsline.com.

Final preseason ratings will be adjusted based on recruiting rankings found in Athlon and returning starters to be found in several publications to be determined.

The estimated home field advantage for 2001 will be .592, or about 5.07 points for an average game.
